Comparing quantities worksheets
Count the two groups. Write >, < or = to compare them. Choose worksheet options below.
How to use this worksheet
- Count the left group and the right group separately.
- Decide whether the left group has more, fewer or the same number of pictures.
- Write >, < or = in the middle box. The open side of > or < faces the larger quantity.
Choose your practice
Compare quantities from 1–3, 1–5 or 1–10. Each row uses a different picture; both groups in that row use the same picture. Choose same-size pictures or a different-size challenge: the group with more objects has smaller pictures. Count objects, not the area they cover. Equal quantities keep matching sizes. Use New practice sheet for another set of quantities at the same level.
Begin with 1–3 and same-size pictures. Let the child say more, fewer or the same, or point to the group with more, before introducing written symbols. Pair objects from the two groups to check the comparison. Try the different-size challenge after the child can compare quantities confidently; explain that bigger pictures do not necessarily mean more objects.
Changing the practice level creates a fresh version. For another sheet at the same level, use the New practice sheet button. Save the settings link or add the sheet to a pack to keep that version. Tracing keeps the same correct forms and varies their arrangement or path lengths.
Age guidance is approximate. Print on A4 or US Letter paper. Choose outlines to save ink or pre-coloured pictures to start the activity without colouring. The instructor key follows the same worksheet options and paper size.
